Bishop Welly Odendo – Fruitfulness

Bishop Willy is the youngest bishop I have ever seen. He hails from Eastlands and he has this Godly aspect in him that manifests in his talks and preaching. Sitted on my usual position, attentive to the speaker and yearning to learn something new, I drew out my materials ready for the word.

He began by telling us the journey to dominion. He named the 4 steps to achieving dominion which are Fruitfulness – Multiplication – Feel – Subdue – Dominion. He talked of the brand Kkrew and Kubamba. He talked of how silly that felt when someone like Njugush or Dj Moz had told a friend while still in ‘Wathiong’o’ that they are going to start something big, something that will shake the country with evangelism and the fact that they will name it Kkrew or even Kubamba. He affirms that God did not start Kubamba as a TV station. Kkrew did not start big. It started as a tiny idea buried in a person’s mind that is filled with God’s favor.

He said that not every gifted person will rise. This is because divine power is not structured quoting from Ephesians 4:10 that says, “He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)” He gives an example that Njugush is not the best presenter, the best presenter maybe sitted amongst the congregation but he may be busy doing something else, maybe teasing girls. Skills must be put around us for us to reach our destination.

“Success requires difficult decisions,” he says, “But since we don’t love to work alone towards our own successes, we form chamas, bands etc.” He quotes from John 15:1 “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener.” He explains this by saying that every vine needs a keeper. He continues to verse 2 that says, “He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful.” He explains this by saying that whatever gifts we have, God takes and matures them, He cuts off the bad in us so that we can be better selves.

He gives an example of someone doing very well in his own village but if you take the same person somewhere else e.g. a big town, he ceases to become fruitful as his/her thoughts, visions and successes were limited to his native village. Bringing the person to town brings him to another level of vision and new challenges. He advises us to become visionary and to have mentors who would guide us. He said that a gifted man has to appoint a graced man for him to ascend. He gave the example of Daniel who served 4 Kings and started his mission at the age of 17 and 18 but in this generation, the same age group is busy liking and sharing on social sites and singing secular songs.

He finalized about Mentorship where he said;

  1. Mentorship increases your functioning capacity – e.g. a big firm’s CEO has to be mentored for at least 3 years to take over from the outgoing CEO. Daniel 1:1-4
  2. Broadens your vision – Mentorship defines a new level of reality in you.
  3. Recreates you – Daniel’s real name was Belteshazzar but was renamed to Daniel. Peter was named the rock after he answered Jesus who he really is. God must recreate you to fit the destiny he has for you.
  4. Increase your pain threshold – Purpose is painful. Christ fulfilled his purpose in pain. He said “It is finished” not when he was walking on water but when he completed his purpose. If your level of pain threshold is low, you will run away. Not many become millionaires or billionaires, because the millionaire billionaire level is on another level of pain threshold and not many are willing to persevere to that.

He talked of how young the disciples of Jesus were when they were being recruited. Only Peter was 30 when Jesus died. Jesus was their mentor. He went for the poor, he went for the minor in the society in which He broadened their visions, He recreated them and increased their pain threshold as all of them died a matyr death. He also talked of how Paul wrote 14 books in a prison cell just before his death.

I learnt that I need a mentor and God should be my greatest mentor. I learnt that I should not hang around with people with no vision nor direction. If I want Jesus to prune the unwanted parts in me, then I should fully devote myself to him, why shouldn’t you? I think KKrew Bible Study is the place to be every Tuesday as from 5.30 pm at Nairobi Cinema. This will really change your life.

Siloma Stephen

I describe myself as simple yet complex, difficult to fathom and a hard nut to crack. I am made of unfailing love, one that sails my boat and oversees my flaws, one that binds me not on any law but nourishes my soul. I write from my soul, generally anything I feel I need to get off my chest most of which is based on my own life experiences, talents, and passions.
