Being my first Bible Study this year, I decided to be attentive and listen to the word. The minister of the word was Dj Moz of the Kubamba Show that airs on Citizen TV on Sundays. He started by the question, “How Many have ever asked God Why?” He instructed the congregation to turn to their neighbor and share the occasion when one ever asked God Why. After some minutes of chit chat he stepped back to the podium asked for some two or three guys to share on what their neighbor told them on the occasion that they asked God Why.
He started by narrating the story of Joseph, how he was his dad’s favorite but was sold by his brothers, how Potiphar entrusted him with everything but his wife claimed to have attempted to rape him and was thrown in jail, how he still gained God’s favor and was the leader in jail and how he rose to become one of the greatest and wisest leaders in Egypt. He then talked of Job, how the devil went to heaven and told God that he was wandering on earth in which God asked him if he had considered his servant Job. It was then that Satan told God it is because He had protected him.
This struck something in me. Job was so righteous that God had put a shield on him that no one may harm him. Satan had to request God’s shield to be removed so that he can tempt him. Through Job’s trials and tribulations he sinned not, but he question God, he asked God why but he never ceased to believe him. Read Job 42:3-6. If Joseph did not undergo all those trials, there would be no Israel and if Job had not encountered that disaster, God would not have multiplied all what he had.
Dj Moz said that fear is a great hindrance to faith. He encouraged the congregation by saying that despite everything we should never doubt God. He added that we should not fear to ask God why, he is not threatened by that. He also said that very few people in the Bible got the answer to the question why. He explained that the answer doesn’t matter, what matters is that everything works in the glory of God. He told us of how God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. He assured us that God will give us sufficient grace at any difficult moment.
I learnt not to fear any temptations that I may have. I am not blameless and righteous like Job but he was tempted and from Job’s story we learn that everything works together for Good. We learn that temptations come from the evil one and not from God. That Bible Study was a blessing to me and I decided to share it with you. Should you want to join us, you will find us at Nairobi Cinema every Tuesday as from 5:30pm. Much Welcomed.
