Starting up a blog and naming it a Christian blog is just like dipping a nut in honey. Doing two or three posts is like licking the honey from the nut. Sharing the posts and getting positive feedback from people is like the nut in your mouth and enjoying the wholesome taste of the nut. And comes the beautiful part, chewing. When praise and fame falls in place, a frequent check of stats and the yearn for recognition burns in you. Hey Christian blogger did you start writing controversial posts again? Are you really a ‘Christian blogger’?
I have been there, I started as a vent blogger. Back in 2013 while still on Google Blogger, I did a post about my story, became the talk of social media and some little recognition fell into place. I started putting Bible verses in my blog, those sweet verses that will work for me and my readers; I alone know the plans I have for you, every good and perfect gift comes from above, He will open the floodgates of heaven etc. Did I really know the location of those verses? Could I put them in context or did I place them there to console others and show them of my masterly in the word?
Hey Christian blogger, did your nut become so sweet that you forgot to watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation? Did you get along the patterns that came with your little fame? Did you endorse the ungodly? Did your writing become all about you and not Him?
‘Hey am Siloma.’
‘I know you, I love your pieces so much, they are just interesting and amazing. I also used to be a writer, I need someone to mentor me. I wouldn’t mind if we met, would you?’
‘Thanks a bunch for the compliment, #NiJesus. Am humbled that you love them but I am sorry but I never meant for them to be interesting and pleasing just to the ears, I meant that they change lives. Am sorry but I have to get deep in prayer and ask God for more inspiration and knowledge to write pieces that move souls. Next time, I want you to say, ‘Hey Siloma, I was changed by what you wrote’
Then a friend would say, ‘Hey are you nuts? That was a compliment, why say that to such a beauty? This is a golden chance, did you see how she said she wouldn’t mind if you met and exchanged contacts? I actually know this girl, she doesn’t love writing at all. Don’t sleep when this girl takes her effort to hit on you.’
‘Am sorry bro but I have a course, I know my goal, I know why I write, for Him, not for me, to change and inspire not to hit on people I meant to talk to through my art.’
Hey Christian blogger, did the other party influence you? Did good words of compliment soak in your heart that you forgot your course? Did revenue generation supersede your ultimate goal? Lastly and most importantly, are you rooted to the word? Do you teach from your own imaginings or from His word? Do you read what you teach or do you preach water and drink wine?
