When exactly does one say they are rich? Or what defines being rich? I mean, the rich should be happy? They should be free, they should mingle and dance in the rain. They should breathe the rich air of life and have it all in health and wealth. The rich should be themselves, they should express their own views without fear.
But it confuses me when I find the rich incapacitated, or do I have the wrong definition of being rich? I find the rich enclosed, in VIP sections where they engage in mute conversations, in leafy suburbs where all there is is the swaying of trees, whistle of birds and shedding of leaves or in posh places where they talk in an accent clinking wine glasses.
Is isolation the definition of rich? To drive that expensive car alone? To live in that mansion without the knowledge of any soul around you? It’s funny that their dogs cannot mingle too. Is being rich owning the world? Is it more of the flesh than the spirit? Do we call you rich because of what you own rather than the abundance of your heart? Is someone still rich when they are buried? Do we say he died a rich death? Is being rich a class, a sect or a cult? Is it more about definitions and attributions? It is when people brush off their dust to come greet you with fear? Do you become a small god because of your influence?
My definition of rich is fulfilment. Is it about pursuing passions. It is much about satisfaction rather than acquiring. It is the ability to create a balance between social life and the so called ‘class’ and ‘business’. It is the ability to slack your humanly greed with goodness, gentleness and joy. It is having the heart that yearns to give rather than receive. It is about you (the soul) and not you the owner! It is not evil being rich, but it can be when you do not understand the meaning of being rich. And with that, I am rich!
