I am not Kikuyu because I speak Kikuyu, I am not Kikuyu because I have the names Kamau or Njenga or Mutheci. I am not Luo because I speak fluent Luo or because I love fish or come from the lakeside. I am not Luo because I have the names Otieno, Odhiambo or Arunga. I am neither not violent simply because I am a woman from Nyeri neither am I stupid because am a Maasai. I cannot accept poor pay simply because I come from Ukambani and am not naive because I come from Northern Kenya.
I am Kikuyu because my parents are/were Kikuyu. All Luos don’t have pride because some guy can’t stop flaunting his wealth. Saying Nyeri women are violent should not be the reason why you won’t marry me after dating for years. I will not be your trash can simply because my land is unproductive and you won’t degrade me because I come from Maasailand or Northern Kenya.
As a great follower of conversations on social platforms, I am left to wonder what Kenya is all about. The abuse, the harsh tribal conversations are demeaning. If I am a Kikuyu, I don’t own Kenya because HE Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta is the president. If am Luo, I don’t have to completely oppose the government because Raila Odinga is in the opposition. As a Maasai I don’t have to hate the system of government simply because a fellow Maasai was not appointed by the president.
It is saddening that we have hearts as hard as diamond given that we don’t learn from what befell upon us in the post election violence. It is saddening to hear my friends saying that I cannot marry from this and this tribe. If we characterized people by tribe, then
- ALL Kikuyus would be thieves, liars and heartless
- ALL Luos would be ignorant, full of pride and trouble makers
- ALL Kalenjins would blindly follow what their leaders say with no thought
- ALL Maasais would be stupid who fight among themselves
- ALL Borans and Somalis would be Al-shabaabs
- ALL Kisii would be witch doctors
- ALL Luhyas would be illiterate
- ANYONE from Coast would be lazy and unfit to work anywhere
So if the above is the case then every tribe would have its own country. Every tribe will have its own system of government and its rules and regulations but since that is and will NOT be the case, we should learn to live like sheep not as hungry mad hyenas. If we cannot live like sheep then let us kill each other and the few survivors will know that conflict is not well solved by war and conflict cannot be resolved by the level of thinking that created it.
The pride in Kenyans is a grenade but the dirty mouth talk and war in social platforms is a nuclear bomb. No single Kenyan will go to the streets and start a fight but a bunch, rallied together by stupid politics in the name of protecting ‘OUR’ whatever can really do something nasty. I think much has been said in preaching about peace. Sugar coated stories in making Kenyans rally together for a minute or two. It is time to cut the crap and tell Kenyans the truth. The truth that no one cares.
No one cares that you were killing in the name of fighting for your rights, encroachment to your land or theft of your cattle. I would just hear a report of people dead and that’s it, I would not stop squeezing my ugali. Just the same way we did not care is the same way you should not care about where the strife started, you should not care about Jaramogi and Kenyatta. They are long dead and they are resting in peace while you are not sleeping in peace.
You make war by your tongue. You make war by saying ill of others, of God’s creation. If that Kikuyu is heartless and that Luo is ignorant then that new born baby is automatically the same. We are not born sinners because we sinned in our mother’s wombs, we are born sinners because our ancestors, Adam and Eve sinned. This is equal to I am not Kikuyu because I acquire the behavior of MOST Kikuyus, I am Luo because simply, my father and mother are Luo.
So Kenyans please, cut the crap. Down the tongue. How many Kikuyus have happy relationships with Luos? Married with Kids? You are not the one who generalizes somebody character, you are not the one to judge. That machete is lifted by your tongue’s hate speech revolutions. This slowly becomes part of you and you become a murderer deep in your soul. Would you think performing the act in real life will be a hard job?
Martin Luther King once quoted, “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” If he was to resurrect in Kenya he would make another very short speech and say, “That was not my dream.” Then he would die. Kenyans, politics has and is killing us. Gado put it well in the cartoon below
That is what it means by ‘YOU ARE SCREWED!’ Remember that I did not say ‘We’. Simple question, when you are donating blood, do you give a condition that your blood should not be given to a specific tribe? When you visit a children home, do you say your shopping and/or clothes should not be given to a specific tribe? May be the person you criticize and hate a lot has your blood flowing in his/her bloodstream. That should not make you not donate blood.
I can write all the quotes in the world, but know something, I believe good deeds do not come back void but bad deeds rebound into painful sores that make you shatter by the day. Bad deeds include that tongue that says ill of God’s creature. When you curse someone you curse God’s creature in which God created as perfect so in short you are cursing God’s child. This is what the bible says about the tongue.
5 Likewise, the tongue is a small part of the body, but it makes great boasts. Consider what a great forest is set on fire by a small spark. 6 The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one’s life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell
7 All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and sea creatures are being tamed and have been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. 10 Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. 11 Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? 12 My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water.
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Again Kenyans, I don’t sugar coat my words, Think With Your #BrainsNotBums
