Are you a Christian? What identifies you as a Christian? What are the markings of you as a Christian? How can I tell that you are a Christian? Why were the disciples really called the disciples? These were some of the questions that Teacher Rolf decided to ask the congregation. He said that he was not a pastor but a teacher of the word of God.
Rolf defines Christianity as being like Christ. He affirms that being a Christian one is able to do more of what Christ himself did as narrated in John 14:12 that says;
“Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.”
He goes further and says, the Christians of today cannot perform these simply because they do not know Christ. Christians of today do not fully understand the word and actions of Christ justified in Hosea 4:6 that says;
“My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. “Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; because you have ignored the law of your God, I also will ignore your children.”
He says that if we don’t know Jesus and what has been attributed to us, we die due to lack of knowledge and perish. He adds that God is a planner because;
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
“I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”
He says that for us to start practicing Christianity we must know who we are in Christ. He quotes from Ezekiel 36:25-26 that says;
” I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”
He says that the problem why we perish without knowledge is because we want to change the Bible to suit us. We also forget that we are made in the image and likeness of God in that the holy trinity, God the father, the son and the holy spirit also made man as a trinity composing of the spirit, body and soul. He quotes from Ist Thessalonians 5:23
“May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
He tells us that the statutes of God do not simply imply staying away from sin. He ends by quoting Hebrews 6:1
“Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God,”
In which he tells us to mature in Christianity and do above the basic Christian tasks of healing, casting out demons and repentance to the raising of the dead.
