Recently, my brother and I were walking from Kileleshwa to Nairobi. It was around 11.00pm and we chose to stroll talking about life.
We talked about so many things. We talked about how we will remember that long walk one day, our goals and dreams and our spirituality.
It got scary when we neared town, there were all these scary dark figures strolling alone.
‘Do you know there is no difference between that person and you.’ I told him.
‘Why?’ He asked
‘If you didn’t have the opportunities you now have in life, what are the odds that you wouldn’t be him?’
He pondered a little and then nodded in agreement.
‘Do you know that if that guy steals from us, as Christians we are supposed to love him more? And actually, lead him to the way of Christ?’ I added.
‘Yeah, we should.’
‘But the problem is that there is a time we remove our Christianity badges and act on our own thinking. We forget that we should love our ENEMIES and pray for those who PERSECUTE us.’
We walk down Jevanjee gardens and we are overwhelmed by the many street kids lying in the pavements.
It is chilly, an old guard watches over a sleeping street boy and this overwhelms us.
‘Do you know that this can be you in your old age?’ I asked my brother.
He cannot answer.
‘Do you know that you may not achieve your goals and dreams and one day, as old as you will be you can be a night guard? Do you know that God may decide to put this thorn in your flesh so as to save your soul? Scary right?’ I added
‘Very scary, we have to constantly thank God for everything. It is not that we were too good to deserve all we have, we just have a unmerited favor.’ He said
What are the odds that you were born in a wealthy family and not in a poor one? What are the odds that you are talented, skilled and educated? As you go along this path of life, do you think it took your strength, courage and hard work?
There are tons who have put strength, walked with courage and worked hard but still, they do not have what you have. Do you grunt because this or that never works?
Did you know that in EVERYTHING that you go through His spirit has made you perfect in your weakness? He says that He has not given you a spirit of timidity but of power, love and self-discipline. He also says that you are not your own and apart from Him you are NOTHING.
Success is not because of our hard work, it is because time and chance happened to us all. Ecclesiastes 9:11
